On mankind’s readiness for death

Humans always assume that everything will continue as it has been—that Earth will keep spinning, the tides will keep rising and falling, and that stars will shine forever in the night sky. Yet all these things will most definitely come to an end.

Non-existence is a scary concept, really—the Great Universal Blackout, the Big Freeze, or any of the other doomsday scenarios we have painted for ourselves are topics we don’t like to discuss, as if talking about them will draw them ever closer. But I don’t think it has to…
